According to UNICEF more than 600,000 girls are out of primary school in Kenya. Poverty, early marriage, pregnancy, lack of parental support and lack of access to menstrual hygiene products are factors keeping girls out of education.

ActionAid has been running 5000 catch up centers to provide girls aged 10 to 19 with a chance to gain basic literacy/numeracy and learn about their rights. The centers run nine month long courses where the girls can gain basic literacy before transitioning to the next stage of learning.
